Athletics and Special Olympics
The Soaring Eagle Center offers athletic opportunities year-round. Bowling and basketball teams are open to all area adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Participation in the Soaring Eagle Day Program is not required to join in the athletic events. No experience or skill is required to participate. Everyone learns together.
Weekly practices are conducted and teams are organized for intra-squad games. Soaring Eagle teams also complete in local tournaments with other area programs.
Bowling season runs from August through October at AMF Lanes in DeSoto. We bowl from 3:30-5:00 on Sunday afternoons. The season includes special events such as Dollar Strike Day, a Bowl-a-thon to raise money for our sports programs, and ends with an intramural tournament. The cost is $5 which includes shoes. Join us for the fun!
Basketball season begins in November with a skills clinic and tournament hosted by Ovilla Christian School in Ovilla (near Red Oak). Practices are held Thursday nights from 6:30-8:00 beginning in November at Faith Bible Church and Community Missionary Baptist Church, both in DeSoto. The Soaring Eagles basketball teams participate in Special Olympics tournaments in January and February.
